Overview

Hooks is a performance-driven jiu-jitsu brand focused on delivering high-quality gear across gi and no-gi apparel. I was brought in to design kimonos and MMA apparel, with the goal of elevating the brand’s visual presence to match the premium standard of their products. The focus was not just on aesthetics, but on creating designs that function in motion while standing out in a highly competitive grappling market.

Approach

The process began with direct collaboration to define goals, creative direction, and product intent.

From there, I translated performance and durability into a visual language rooted in clean, minimal, and technical design. Through iterative feedback and refinement, I developed graphics and design systems that worked across multiple applications—balancing wearability with strong brand presence. This included creating original design marks that extended beyond individual pieces.

The final work established a more cohesive and elevated visual direction across Hooks’ product line.

Designs were applied across gi, rashguards, and apparel, creating consistency while allowing flexibility for future releases. Several of the design marks created during this process were later adopted as core brand assets, contributing to a stronger, more recognizable identity that aligns with the brand’s premium positioning.
